What does pitch shifter do?

A duration-preserving pitch shifter transposes frequencies without intentionally making the file longer or shorter. SoundTools changes sample rate by the requested semitone factor, resamples to 44.1 kHz, and applies the inverse atempo factor so the final timeline stays close to the source duration.

A real local processor, not a decorative upload box

FFmpeg asetrate + aresample + atempo runs after you choose a source and explicitly start the operation. The audio samples remain in browser memory; SoundTools does not send the selected media to an application endpoint.

Choose whole semitones from one octave down to one octave up. Zero is unchanged; +12 doubles frequency, while −12 halves it before duration compensation. Results remain available for preview and download only in the current tab. Closing or refreshing the page releases those temporary objects.
